Pir Hasan Kabirdin was born in a place called “Ucch Sharif” in the state of Bhavalpur. He was one of the 5 sons of Pir Sadardin. Since childhood he was very interested in Bandagi and Ibadat. This habit was instilled into him by his father Pir Sadardin. Hence he was continuously doing zikr which means remembering Allah.
Once when he was quite young, Pir Sadardin, was making preparation to visit the Imam of the time in Iran. Pir Hasan Kabirdin also wanted to join him to visit the Imam but being very young of age his father denied it. During that time the mode of travel was on horseback or walking through the harsh terrain and mountains between India and Iran. Pir Sadardin told him that he was too young to travel through these mountains.
Hasan Kabirdin was disappointed with his father’s decision. So when his father left he kept his zikr going constantly. He then thought of collecting cotton from the cotton plants and converted into threads. Then he weaved the thread into white cloth and wrote what we refer as Anant Akhada and Nav Chuga. This granth contains 500 verses of supplications. He made a pagadi (something people wore on head). This took him 6 months and six days. He made this to present to the Imam of the time.
Incidently, since Pir Sadardin mentioned to his son that he was too young to do the didar of the Imam he was denied the batuni didar for six months and six days. It is written in the ginan that an iron wall came in the middle of him and the imam of the time during bandgi. After this period was over the batuni didar resumed.
Later in life Pir Hasan Kabirdin was given permission to visit the Imam of the time. The Imam at that time was Shri Islam Shah. Pir Hasan Kabirdin presented the pagadi to the Imam of the time. The imam accepted it and wore it immediately and was very happy. At that time he appointed Pir Hasan Kabirdin as the Pir following Pir Sadardin and was given the instruction to continue propogating the religion.
Pir Hasan Kabirdin’s knowledge was so powerful that when he explained the Satpanth (or the straight path), people started converting immediately to Islam. Pir wrote many ginans during his time of Piratan which we still study and sing in Jamat khana. Most of his ginans are full of supplications
Our imam Shri Islam shah was very happy with Pir Hasan Kabirdin and gave him the permission for the salvation of unlimited millions of souls. Pir Hasan Kabirdin begged the Imam that this was a very great responsibility and was tough for him to carry out. He gave the explanation to the Imam that in this period of Kaljug with so much crimes going on the people are running away from the religion and referred them as “Khati Chaas” (means sour yogurt drink). He implied that it was very difficult to give salvation to these sinners. Then the Imam told him to give them the benefits of the years of Ibadat that Pir Hasan Kabirdin had collected which would help these sinners to get salvation. The pir agreed to do so. In return the Imam has told us to keep “ MOWLANO ROJO” (Rojo means Fasting) for the respect to the Pir for his generous gift to the Jamat. Hence this Rojo is compulsory. We keep this rojo on the day of Chanraat (new moon) when it falls on Friday.
Pir Hasan Kabirdin had 7 wives, 18 sons and one daughter. Sayad Imam Shah the oldest son and the daughter bai Budhai are the two children that the jamat is aware of. Sayad Imam shah was not given Piratan by the Imam but Pir Tajdin became the next imam who was the brother of Pir Hasan Kabirdin. Sayad Imam shah has written many ginans which we sing in our jamat khana.
Pir Hasan Kabirdin died in the town of Ucch and he is buried there.
