I AM AN ISMAILI
There are 73 different Tariqahs (paths) in Islam. One of them is the Shia Imami Ismaili tariqah. Islam is my Mazhab or religion and Ismailism is my path or tariqah. I believe in Allah as being one and only, and the Prohpet Mohamed is the Rasul (messanger) of Allah. This makes me a Muslim. In the Quran Allah has also said that HE WHO SUBMITS TO THE WILL OF ALLAH IS A MUSLIM.
The Rasuls are the prophets in whose term holy books were revealed by Allah. The Torah at the time of Judaism and the rasul at that time was Musa (Moses). The Bible was revealed at the time of Prophet Jesus Christ and the Quran was revealed at the time of Prophet Mohamed. Every time the name of Prophet Mohamed appears in the articles please recite the salwaat.
Allah is known in the world by different names eg. Khuda, God, Ishwar, Bhagwan etc. but whatever name you call him by, with love and emotion, the prayer reaches HIM. He is the knower of all things, hence it doesn’t matter what name you use to refer him by.
In the beginning before the creation as we understand (i.e. creation of physical entities like, stars, planets, mountains, seas, forest, and all kinds of other life forms which have physical bodies), God separated a chunk of his own light (Noor) and identified it as a FEMALE SPIRIT. This is where the concept of male and female was born. We believe that this is the spirit (Noor) of the Prophet Mohamed. (In Sloko Nano by Pir Sadardin, it says that “Noor mahethi noor pragatiya, tenu satagur naam re.”) Satagur means a true Prophet or Pir (appointed by the Imam of the time).
This spirit of the Prophet was appointed by Allah to create. A female is the one who gives birth hence the Noor of the Prophet became the creator.
This Noor has been going from Prophet to Prophet and we believe that there were 124,000 (One hundred and twenty four thousand) Prophets sent by Allah in different parts of the world and there was not a single area in the world which did not receive a Prophet to give the guidance of Allah. The most known Prophets are Adam, Noah, Ebrahim, Moses, Jesus and final Prophet was Prophet Mohamed.
We as Ismailis believe that Prophet Mohamed was the Last Prophet of Allah and he was the First Pir. After the Prophethood ended the Piratan started and we have the names of all Pirs to the present day. At present Our Imam also holds the Office of the Pir. Hence when we receive Taliqa from Hazar Imam He sends us blessings as Paternal and Maternal. (Paternal as the Imam and Maternal as Pir.)
The incident of Gadire Khum is vital to the understanding the final wishes of Prophet Mohamed. He declared Hazrat Ali as his successor at this place and directed the followers to follow Hazrat Ali’s guidance which will keep them on the Right Path.
Some people followed Prophet Mohamed’s wishes and others went their own way. This brought about a split in Muslims. The group of people who followed Hazrat Ali became SHIA and the remaining Muslims became SUNNI.
We have been following the guidance of Hazrat Ali and his Progeny till today. There are 49 Imams to date and we have been given constant guidance from them.
Now we look at the Imams. Who is an IMAM? In the Quran it is mentioned “Qula shain a saina hu fi Imamim Mubin” This means that we have vested the knowledge and authority of everything in the Manifest Imam. In other words it means the Imam is aware of everything that is created and will be created. The Imam is the Male representation of Allah. There is only one Manifest Imam at a time who is ever present and will always be here according to our belief. It is the command of Allah and Prophet Mohamed to follow the Quran and Ahlul Bayt (The family of Prophet Mohamed) and you will not go astray and these two will keep you on sirat al Mustaqim (the straight path). The present Imam is a great great … great grandson of Prophet Mohamed through his daughter Bibi Fatima in marriage to Hazrat Ali (our first Imam).
It is important to know how the name ISMAILI came about. At the time of our sixth Imam there happened to be a split amongst the Shia group. The appointed Imam was ISMAIL and the other group followed his brother. People who followed Imam Ismail are known as THE ISMAILI. There is another community called Bohra who are also Ismaili but they are not Shia Imami Ismaili. They do not follow the Imam of the time.
I AM ALSO AN ISMAILI.
Now there are some clarifications for non-Ismailies who ask the question as to why they cannot come to Jamat Khana. They claim that we as Ismailies are allowed to go to Mosque or Church etc.
The answer to this is very simple. We Ismailies have accepted Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohamed as our Prophets of Islam. Hence we can go to a Mosque or a Church. People who have not accepted the Imam of the Time and not taken his Bayyat cannot come to Jamat Khana.
This is in short who we Ismailies are.
