What does Tenet mean. It is a principle or belief in the faith. We have been given the ginans of the Pirs in which there are many advices which will keep us on the path of Siraatul Mustakim (the right path). In one of the ginans it is mentioned to follow 4 things and avoid five things in life which will keep you on the straight path. The ginan goes this way “Char paadi ne tame panch ne waaro ….. evi aachi aachi karni kamavo”. In the first part of this article I have discussed the four positive actions that will help you in life.
In this article I will write about the five NEGATIVE ACTIONS to avoid.
Kaam (Lust)
The surrounding in which we live in the western world is such that it will pull you towards the actions of alduteration. To be fair, this does not only happen in the western worlds but even in other places. People are very friendly and majority of them are looking for fun. God has created marriage for the sexual activities and pro-creation. You have your partner for that purpose. Stay satisfied and gain some spiritual points from the almighty. By actively indulging in these activities have brought many problems to the people involved. People have contracted genital area diseases and unwanted pregnancies. All this leads to trouble in life of different kinds. So as a human with intellect it is wise to control your passion.
Krodth (Anger)
Anger is another enemy of people. Many people have taken actions in anger and are rotting in prison. As they grew old in the prison the inmates have admitted that those actions could have been avoided, if they were not taken in the state of anger. So if ever there is a discussion or argument, that puts you in a state of deep anger, count till ten in your mind, and think, if it is really worth to take any negative actions. Think of how many family members would be affected with it. If you love your family members you will 100 percent avoid it. It is better to lose the argument then put yourself in the position where there are irreparable consequences. This will also increase your TOLERENCE CAPACITY.
Madh (Egoism)
Egoism is a big SHOW OFF of a person in a behavior as to say that he is superior to others. There is no one like him is the message in it, or I am smarter than others. There may be other people who could be quiet and be smarter than the Egoist. So this behavior is nothing but vanity.
In one of the firmans of Hazar Imam he advises us to have HUMILITY IN SUCCESS. This is what God wants, be HUMBLE. This is the correct reaction of a MOMIN. Momin is the word used for a person who is regular in his or her religious duties. Nobody likes a person who is a show off or a big mouth. People may not say anything on that person’s face but inside them they hate this behavior. Egoism actually does not bring success. It is the will of God which helps you in your successful career. When a person with a big ego fails in many things consecutively, he is more depressed than a person with humility. The person with humility will accept it graciously like it is the will of God and move on.
Lobh (Greed or to be a Miser or Scrooge)
Generosity is one important message from God. If you have more than your needs, be generous with it. If you have only one loaf of bread and your neighbor is hungry, share your loaf of bread with your neighbor. In the Quran God has said “PUT ME IN YOUR DEBT”. God has also promised if you spend money in his way, he will return you in plenty. Now how do you put God in debt. God has also said if you want to serve me, serve my CREATION. Human being is a part of his creation. So when you feed a hungry man it means that you have put God in debt. Also if you support a person who needs help in any way you have served the wishes of God and you will be compensated. The compensation can come in different ways not only in the way of money.
Our Imam Sultan Mohamed Shah has also said if you give me one I will in return give you “One hundred and twenty five thousand” (ek na sava lakh). You may not get this exchange in monetary way only and right away, but it can come in many different ways like, happiness, good health, great relationships, peace of mind and many rewards in the next world. Your soul could be cleansed which can give you better thoughts to keep you on the path of “Siraatul Mustaqim” (The right path). A thought is the rays of the soul.
Moh (Worldly attractions)
Oh my my, look around you. So much comfort, convenience and entertainment being offered to you today. One cannot escape being trapped in this entanglement. All leisurely activities are available along with the supply of numerous material and gadgets to use and play with. A house, automobile, television, cameras, mobile phones, tablets and other gadgets are easily available for your instant use. Also there are other modes of transportations, boats for your trip in the lake country, cottages, skiing, skating and numerous supply of items for your comfort. How can you escape this? The western society will offer everything that will keep you in debt. No one will teach you how to make money to pay all this. That is up to you to think. Think of mortgages and loans you have to borrow and pay. To get all these things you have to work which takes away a good part of your day. Sometimes years go by, and late in life one realizes what happened, and also repents that these things actually did not bring any happiness.
There is nothing wrong in using some of the above gadgets to make your life comfortable. Islam teaches us to balance our life. This means we have to be considerate of the afterlife while we are living in this world. Do not get too involved with many of the attractions available that you do not have time for the SPIRITUAL LIFE. It is very easy to get dragged in these comforts and conveniences and that can take away most part of your day and you hardly have time to work for your spiritual progress.
So what one should do? DISCIPLINE YOU LIFE. Set priority so at certain time which is reserved for your spiritual upliftment is observed. LIVE WITH CONVICTION AND NOT WITH CONVENIENCE. Work during your work hours, Pray during the assigned prayer times, have entertainment of your choice, eat, rest etc. Observe your compulsory religious duties and in addition remember the ALMIGHY GOD at other times of the day. This will bring you quiet happiness. Rest you can use your intellect.
