What does Tenet mean. It is a principle or belief in the faith. We have been given the ginans of the Pirs in which there are many advices which will keep us on the path of Siratul Mustakim (the straight path). In one of the ginans it is mentioned to follow 4 things and avoid five things in life which will keep you on the straight path. The ginan goes this way “Char paadi ne tame panch ne waaro ….. evi aachi aachi karni kamavo”.
The word Char means Four. Our pir says in this ginan to follow the four POSITIVE actions which are as follows:
Sut (Truth)
Saburi (Patient)
Khamiya (Tolerance)
Dayaa (Mercy)
Our pir also says to stay away from the five NEGATIVE actions which are as follows:
Kaam (Lust)
Krodh (Anger)
Madh (Egoism)
Lobh (Greed or to be a Miser or Scrooge)
Moh (Worldly attraction or enticement)
These five are also referred in our ginans as Panj Bhu means FIVE GHOSTS.
Our religion teaches us to keep the Material and Spiritual balance in life. You cannot forsake one for the other. This means that you have to live in this world and fulfil your duties towards it. During childhood you go to school, then as you grow up, go to university for further studies, later get married, have children and look after their welfare. To do this you have to work or do business. These are some of the worldly commitments.
Side by side you have to do some work for your SOUL. Every human being has a body and the soul. Your stay in this world is temporary and eventually one day you will die and go to the world of the souls which is the REAL WORLD. So what do you have to do for that. The foundation of our Tarikah is to be regular in your Dua and Dasond. Say your morning and evening prayers regularly preferably in J.K. Do good deeds, help people, do charities and meditate to uplift your soul. All these and many other positive actions will help you to prepare for the Spiritual World. I will discuss some of the 9 topics of action in this article and continue in the follow up article.
TRUTH:
God is the ultimate truth. So if you are truthful in all your actions you are closest to God. To be closest to God means you get perpetual blessings from Him and your life becomes easy, peaceful and happy. Every religion emphasizes on truth. In the world that we are surrounded by today (which our religion refers to as Kul Juug), is filled with lies, wrong doings, cheating, sins of all kinds, etc., and it seems to be very hard to remain truthful. Many things that are happening around us will pull us in taking wrong actions but if you are regular in your prayers etc. you will get extraordinary strength and help from God to be TRUTHFUL. Your thoughts will be filtered and goodness will prevail and will also keep you on the right path.
PATIENCE:
Regular religious practice will help you a lot in being patient. I live in a big city and all I see around me is people rushing. People driving cars are cutting others to reach somewhere or people in the store lined up to pay become impatient if it takes a little time to clear a customer ahead of them. If you ever have travelled in the Subway system, you will see people rushing out of the train and walk with high speed or are running to catch another train or a bus. All, most of these people are achieving is saving some time in the commute, which they will waste in other places. Another ill effect of this behavior is living a stressful life. In certain condition stress will attract many diseases and can also give you heart attack. So why not be patient? When you are patient your mind works better which helps you achieve favourable things in life. By performing your religious duties regularly you can achieve PATIENCE.
TOLERANCE:
Out of the four actions that we are suggested to follow, Tolerance is the most important. In one ginan it is mentioned that tolerance is the leader of the four. It is not easy to be tolerant. People’s behavior around you will triger anger in you. Someone may say something to you which you do not like, you will want to give it back to that person in the same manner. Some racist or bigot will make inappropriate comment which will make you mad. We live in the world today which is full of stress and people’s behavior is not gentle. Most people are living on the edge and anger bursts out for small things which are insignificant plus many other things that happen around you will test your tolerance. Again regular religious duties will help you strengthen your tolerance level and you will become more forgiving than revengeful. This is what God wants. Be forgiving and Pray for people to be Tolerant.
MERCY:
Again with regular religious duties you will develop more mercy for other people around you. Sometimes you will see people who need help you will want to go and help rather than turning your face away. You will become more charitable which will help others in many ways. People with mercy become more of a giver than taker. With this attitude you develop actions which are more Godly than Devilish. You will live a life which is full of POSITIVES and will keep you mentally and physically healthy.
