LAKH CHORIASI NA FERA (CHAR KHAAN)
If you have listened to ginans there is a reference to the above topic. For example there is a ginan in which it says “ Sachi sukrit layne chaljo nahito padso LAKH CHORIASI MAHE”. Also there are other ginans where there is a mention of it.
Now what does it mean? Lakh is a denomination in the Gujerati language which means 100,000.00 (One hundred thousand) and choriasi means 84 (eighty four). Now the expression LAKH CHORIASI means 100,000.00 X 84. This comes to 8.4 million. What does it represent and where does this figure come from? This is what we will try and understand.
The time before the creation of anything is called DHANDHUKAR which means nothingness. First of all GOD created the home for the souls. Then he created Souls. Everything that is created, is from the NOOR OF ALLAH (GOD). The NOOR is present in everything we see and experience. Without its presence nothing exists.
In our ginans there is a mention of CHAR KHAAN. “Char juug ne char khaan suno mara munivaro” in the ginan “Mitha Naam Mohamed ka”. In this article I will discuss char khaan which will give you the connection to 8.4 million (Lakh Choriasi). About char juug I will discuss in another article.
The char khans are as follows:
SATEJ KHAAN
JAREJ KHAAN
INDEJ KHAAN
UDBHOJ KHAAN
God always creates the sustenance before he creates the life. You can observe this fact that before a baby is born a mother has been supplied with milk in her breast. Hence when a baby is born it can get its food. Similar thing happened in Satej khaan.
He created the sustenance and the life forms in four different segments at four different times. First of all, God created SATEJ KHAN, our surroundings. In one ginan it says that first God created 800 thousand mountains, 400 thousand clouds, seven seas, the sun, the moon and 700 thousand stars and the vegetation for future life forms to survive. In all God created 2.1 MILLION SPECIES OF SUCH THINGS.
Next he created JAREJ KHAAN. In this khaan too God created 2.1 MILLION SPECIES of life forms which exist in the earth. In Jarej khaan the underground life forms and some crawlers were created. These were like flies, roaches, worms etc. that were born in the waste products.
The third khaan is INDEJ KHAAN. In this segment of creation God gave birth to
2.1 MILLION SPECIES of life form that were born from the eggs. You can think of birds of all kinds, chicken, ducks, turkey etc. and any other life form that gave birth by first laying eggs.
The fourth is the UDBHOJ KHAAN. Again 2.1 MILLION SPECIES were created that give birth to the fully developed life form like, animals, mammals, humans etc.
Now, if you add up the total life created in the four khaans, it comes to 8.4 million life forms. This is LAKH CHORIASI.
Then what is LAKH CHORIASI NA FERA ? FERA means to come and go. When God wills He puts a soul in a physical body. It can be in any of the 8.4 million species of life form. Mowlana Rumi said that first he was in the stone. Then he went in the plant form, then in birds and animals and now he is in the human form. Where will he go from here. This is a sufi thought.
When God created life he created the LAWS, which every life form has to follow. This is sometimes referred to as the LAWS OF NATURE. This means every soul that is in any form of physical body has to follow the applicable laws. So in whatever degree the soul follows these laws, it gets its rewards and is promoted to higher life forms. Eventually this soul is promoted to the human body which is referred to as “ASHRAFUL MAKHLUKAAT” (the noblest of all creation).
The soul has been created hundreds of thousands of years ago and if you are in the human form you have done something right in the past lives which has brought you to this level of existence (thru your GOOD KARMA). Now you have to think where you will advance from human form.
Every religion teaches us what is right and what is wrong. God has also sent his books to human kind to follow in different religions. The Torah, the Bible, the Quran, the Vedas etc. He also sent the prophets to guide people on the right path. Now if you follow the teachings that are explained to you, then you can progress to a higher level.
Ismailism focuses more on Spiritual (esoteric) aspect of religion. Every soul that is created has come from the ultimate source. The soul is on travel and has to ultimately go back to the SOURCE which is ALLAH (God). We say in our language “Asal me wasal thinu” (i.e. become one with Allah). Also people say “we have come from God and to God we shall return”.
Lakh choriasi is the number of species created by God. The soul is in one of the species whilst in the physical body. Our ultimate goal is to exist in the spiritual world and not take any physical body. If you do not follow the laws of Allah then you keep coming in the physical body again and again. This is called “LAKH CHORIASI NA FERA”.
Our religion teaches us to focus on getting out of this bondage of physical existence. The Noor of the Imam and the Prophet which are the extensions of the Noor of Allah have always been around to guide us to the “Siratal Mustaqim” (the right path). When you follow religiously the Firmans of the Imam, Hadith of the Prophet, Ginans of the Imam appointed Pirs (who are the continuation of the prophethood), and take action upon their teachings, there is a good chance you can achieve “AMRAPURI”(which means the house of souls). This means you have been released from the bondage of physical existence and continue your life in the spiritual world till you “BECOME ONE WITH ALLAH”.
A movie comes to my mind which is parallel in sense that will give you the idea of the bondage of physical bodies. In this movie the character lives the same day again and again till he has completed all the chores he had to do. He fell short of doing all necessary chores for many days and he re-lived the same day again and again until ultimately he could complete all the chores of the day. Then he could get out of living the same day and the next day dawned on him and he was relieved. The name of the movie is “GROUNDHOG DAY” with Bill Murray. Our souls relive longer time in each body it takes but the idea is the same.
